Engineering Capacity reports on 12/09/16 that Sheffield Forgemasters’ has secured two contracts worth more than £4.5m with Russian and German steel companies.
The contracts are for a range of work which will be supplied to Russian steel giant Severstal and to Germany’s only tinplate manufacturer ThyssenKrupp Rasselstein *.
We understand that Sheffield Forgemasters’ now supply more steel rolls to Severstal than any other roll maker and responsible for providing around three quarters of Severstal’s entire steel roll requirement. The finished rolls, which will be produced in Sheffield and delivered throughout next year, will be used in cold rolling mills to roll sheets for automotive body panels and white goods at Severstal’s plant in Cherepovets in NW Russia. The rolls for Rasselstein’s production facility (based in Andernach in W.Germany) will be supplied for the production of tin plate to make food packaging and aerosol cans.
The rolls will be produced using specialist techniques including forging each steel ingot and heat treatment to obtain the required hardness properties. In the process, the rolls are exposed to temperatures from +900 degrees to -85 degrees. The parts are then expected to be machine finished to within 0.05mm using on site CNC tools.
* Severstal products are exported to over fifty countries. Rasselstein’s facility is one of the largest production facilities for packaging steel producing tinned and special chromium coated steel.
